Will it work for you or against you?

Human Brain: Is it possible for one half of your brain to be fearless but the other to be fearful?

Yes, only your Conscious mind feels fear. That's its job.

However, whether you actually feel afraid or not is irrelevant. The Subconscious mind is still running programmed responses that you haven't dealt with. The Subconscious mind is very quick and if it has a response prepared for a particular event, it will act before your Conscious mind has a chance to decide. To change that, you must direct the Subconscious mind to a new response. Examples are positive thinking, visualisation and spoken affirmations. My favourite approach is Havi Brooks' idea of just sitting down and talking with your "fear" -

I like it because it gets to the very core of the interplay between the Conscious and Subconscious minds. The Subconscious mind is there to act to protect you but it isn't there to decide how to protect you. So it will make a response that has worked in the past regardless of whether it's still working now. That decision process is the job of the Conscious mind.
