Why is it that society has recently become so offended and intolerant about everything?
Anyone
who takes offence is a bully because they’re demanding that you
change your behaviour for no other reason than they don’t like it.
Instead of shouting “Discrimination”, people should be forced to
shout “She’s a witch! She’s a witch! Burn her” so that
everyone can see the reprehensible behaviour for what it is.
Occasionally,
people take offence at what I say. No, it’s true. I know it’s
hard to believe but it is true
Them:
“You have offended me”
Me:
“So?”
Them:
“Well, you should change”
Me:
“Why? Just because you’re offended doesn’t make you right.
Maybe you’re wrong to be offended and should change”
Them:
“I have every right to be offended.”
Me:
“Yes, you do. But your demand that anyone else should change solely
based on your taking offence is a restriction of their rights”
People
only use offence when they have no other argument. It’s like when
people claim a behaviour is immoral, you know that they have nothing
else.
Let’s
take a simple one: discrimination.
If
someone accuses me of discrimination, three things happen which
should a complete anathema to civilised people:
- I am presumed guilty until proven innocent. What? Our entire principle of law is thrown out. How is that justifiable?
- There is no standard measure for me to prove my innocence because it’s down to my accuser to decide if I’m innocent. Why don’t we just bring back the Dunking Chair or the Iron Maiden and have done with it?
- The person doing the accusing isn’t questioned. They are presumed to be making this complaint for fair and good reasons and have no hidden agenda. If someone made a complaint to the police that they had been assaulted, the first thing that the police would do is check their story by collecting evidence. The police will presume that the complaint is valid but they will still check.
So,
just remember that anyone labelling you in this way is assaulting
your human rights. The only way they can do that is assault human
rights as a whole, including their own. In my mind, that makes the
whole thing kind of stupid. But, hey, that’s only my opinion.
Let’s
be clear
- You have the right to disagree with me
- You have the right to disagree with me out loud - either vocally or in writing
- You have the right to feel whatever you want to feel about disagreeing with me - including taking offence.
- But you don’t have the right to demand that I change my beliefs, opinions and/or behaviour just because you’re upset by them.

Who is a threat to your internet privacy?
That
means everyone.
We
are in a feeding frenzy of unbridled lust at the moment over who gets
my money. This is because the internet represents the biggest gold
rush in recorded history - and everyone is invited. I don't have to
pack up my mule and traipse around the world to be a part of it. As
long as I have a computer and an internet, I'm right in the thick of
it. And people are after my money by fair means and foul. The
tricksters and thieves are trying to con me out of it and businesses
are legitimately trying to datamine my activities in order to better
"serve" me which amounts to exactly the same thing
People
talk about the Dark Web. What they don't realise is that most of it
is dark. It is being used to misinform and mislead people and so
steer them to certain economic decisions and activity.
There
is nothing new in this. All other forms of media have gone this very
same way. Only they took a little longer and they no longer pretend
to be unbiased.
You
can see this by the level of news reporting in the media. There is no
news anymore. It gives a completely distorted view of what is
happening in the world. According to news media, what Kate Middleton
is wearing today is more important than the fact that tens of
thousands of children will die today as they did yesterday and as
they will tomorrow.
So
it is that sites once set up to help the public are now hindering it.
Take TripAdvisor. It allowed people to give honest, unpaid reviews.
Sounds great. However, first it was co-opted by businesses giving
false positive reviews to artificially drive up their ratings and
then by their competitors giving false bad reviews to drive down
those same ratings. So their information is utterly flawed but
TripAdvisor don't care because all it wants is the traffic.
Take
Facebook. I would say that 50% of the posts on my wall are either
people sharing company information in the hope of winning a prize or
companies sharing information hoping to go viral. It takes real
effort to see what my friends are actually doing.
Now
I've only used TripAdvisor and Facebook as examples. They are not the
worst and they are certainly not alone.
So,
my computer is loaded with cookies, Trojans, covert software and the
like with companies spying on me to learn my potential buying habits.
It's
like walking out onto any street in the Third World and being
accosted by hordes of children trying to beg from you, traders trying
to sell to you and thieves trying to pick my pocket
If
something isn't done soon, the internet will become strangled under
this overgrowth and people will just stop using it.
So
anyone who can offer secure and private use of the internet without
this aggravation is going to become seriously rich
What are some universal things we should not do to become successful?
I
have a friend who drives me crazy. She's been going to start her
business in earnest for the last 10 years now but before she does,
she discovers that some part is wrong and has to be made perfect.
When it's all perfect, then she'll start. We keep talking about the
same things round and round the business cycle. I tell her that every
time she improves, everything will be out of date so perfection is
impossible but still she works at it. She talks to me about how when
it's working, she will be able to afford to do more travelling etc
etc But I know that in 10 years time, we will be in exactly the same
place. I haven't dared asked her, when she thinks that she will be
too old to travel.

She
tells me that she's working on her business. I tell her that she
doesn't have a business until she has paying customers. Until then,
she's just playing at being in business.
